Description

Harrison's High Potency Coarse is a certified, nutritionally balanced food, suitable for regular feeding all year round. Your birds are guaranteed to benefit from this dietary formulation and its coarse form will allow for regular pecking throughout the day, thus resulting in a slow-releasing sustenance. It is ideal for all medium to large parrots, especially African greys, cockatoos, large conures, eclectus, macaws and pionus.

Feeding guidelines

Be sure to feed fresh food daily, do not "top off". To help reduce waste, feed as distinct meals. Birds may eat all they want, but use the table below as a guideline.

  • Conversion: All birds should start out and remain on High Potency Formula for a period of at least 6 months
  • Special needs: For birds that are molting, overweight, underweight, particularly active, housed in a cold climate, recovering from an illness or affected by liver or kidney disease
  • Weaning Birds: Feed High Potency Formula for at least 6-9 months
  • Breeding Birds: Birds should be fed High Potency Formula 1-2 months prior to the breeding period and until chicks are weaned or for at least six months before resuming Adult Lifetime Formula. The amount of supplemental certified organic vegetables and fruits may be increased until the chicks are weaned. For each 2 Tbs (20 g) formula, add ½ Tbs (5 g) certified organic peanuts or almonds and 1Tbs (10 g) certified organic sunflower seeds

55 Harrisons High Potency Coarse
Verified Purchase

By on 22 January 2024

A great product our African Grey has been eating for years. We try to know how much she will eat in a sitting but as a typical messy parrot she plays with it when she's had enough and throws cubes out. We pop a small collection bowl under the bars of her cage, underneath her bowl to catch a lot what she throws out and to keep it clean.
Our vet says she one of the the healthiest weight parrot she sees and the best natured. She's 30 and looks great, a joy to have as part of our family, so Harrisons supplemented with a small amount of fresh fruit, veg and treats seems to have suited her well.

55 Replacement Harrison’s bird food high potency coarse
Verified Purchase

By on 5 October 2023

I received this as a replacement for the damaged item which I ordered previously. I tried to edit the bad review which I gave a couple of weeks ago but the link is closed.
I have to say, whoever was monitoring reviews at trustpilot took onboard my complaints and rectified the situation very efficiently. I am completely satisfied with the company and will definitely buy from them again. Their price of the product is very competitive and their shipping is fast.

hi want to take parrot african grey of seed mix do i start with these pellets for six months then adult ones she already eat power treats no problem she about 15 years old she getting bit fatty eats a lot thank you

This diet can be given as the basis for your parrots diet and it should meet all of her  nutritional needs. It is worth trying a different diet if your parrot is overweight but the best way to reduce weight is by reducing treats or human food. Reweighing every 2 to 4 weeks is useful to monitor the progress of your parrot's weight loss.

If you are concerned your parrot is overweight then I advise contacting your local vet for further information, they can let you know how overweight your parrot is and what the ideal weight should be,

Can I feed my young sun conure high potency coarse bird food

K moores

Hi
I have tried my young sun conure on high potency fine but he won't touch it . He seems to prefer larger pellets . Can I feed him high potency course and for how long .
Many thanks
K moores

It is perfectly OK to use coarse pellets for ever if you wish, the size has only a small effect on nutritional value, it is more for ease/preference/personal choice. The high potency however is too high in fat to use throughout life. It is good for young, growing birds and adults while breeding. At other times it is best to use the Lifetime product, which contains markedly less fat. If your bird likes the larger pellets then I would gradually switch him to Harrisons Adult Lifetime Coarse. You will find that he prefers the original food because the fat is like me adding cream to a cake or butter to bread - it just tastes nice. That does not make it better nutritionally though. You will probably have to mix the two types of food together for a while and gradually reduce the amount of the high potency to zero. Hunger is the best way of encouraging the eating of different foods. Otherwise, if your bird can always fill up on fatty food, that may maybe what he always wants.

How much do you charge post and packing please

  • VioVet Staff

Post and packing is free to most of the UK if you spend more than £29.

If you spend less, then it costs £1.95 for a total weight up to 2kg (so up to 4 of the small sized packets) or £3.95 for weights over 2kg. You can always check delivery options and costs by putting items into your shopping basket, then scrolling down the page and entering your post code. You can then choose to add or delete products, or abandon your whole order as you wish.
