Description

Farrier's Formula Double Concentrate is a hoof supplement that provides nutrients such as phospholipids, omega fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and important amino acid “protein building blocks”. These nutrients enable horses to build strong connective tissue proteins important for healthy hoof structure and growth. Over 30 years of research, clinical trials and field testing validate the effectiveness of Farrier's Formula. The formula is doping free and can be fed to competition horses.

Problems that the formula addresses are weak hoof structure that leads to hoof wall problems such as quarter cracks, toe cracks, sand cracks, brittle hoof walls and hoof wall separation. These hoof wall defects often create an environment ideal for the microbial invasions associated with white line disease and crumbling horn. Also addressed are horses with thin soft soles that are susceptible to sudden lameness from bruising, and horses recovering from laminitis or founder whose cohesive bond between the outer hoof wall and the coffin bone has been damaged.

Farrier’s Formula supplies the nutrients required for building strong hoof capsule connective tissue in the correct balance and ratio. It also promotes strong and fast growth of the hoof wall, sole, frog, and heel. Farrier’s Formula provides proper nutrition to “grow out” wall cracks, strengthen and thicken the hoof wall and sole, reduce the likelihood of microbial invasions and bruising, and assist with laminitis recovery. Farrier’s Formula also promotes a glossy more deeply colored coat and strengthened connective tissues of the joints and ligaments.

Feeding Instructions

Feed with a good quality hay and grain ration

Ingredients and Guaranteed Analysis

Ingredients

Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal, Soy Protein Concentrate, Lecithin, Yeast Culture Dehydrated, DL-Methionine, Silicon Dixoide, Biotin, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Zinc oxide, Basic Copper Chloride, Basic Cobaltous Carbonate, Calcium Iodate.

Alfalfa meal is highly palatable to horses. It contains a high Carotene content. The horse converts Carotene to Vitamin A as needed.
Soy protein concentrate is rich in Amino Acids which are required building blocks of tissue. Soy protien concentrate also funishes the amino acid Tyrosine which is a component of thyroid hormone and the neurotransmitter dopamine. Tyrosine is an essential Amino Acid and therefore must be available in the diet. Research performed at Life Data Labs in the 1970s - 1980s established the relationship of this nutrient with hoof problems and obesity related syndromes. Tyrosine supplementation is the natural means of regulating these syndromes, and has always contributed to the effectiveness of Farrier's Formula®.
Lecithin contains Phospholipids and Omega Fatty Acids which add strength and pliability to connective tissues, and are also critical for proper moisture balance. Skin, hoof and hair are connective tissues.
Yeast Culture is a rich source of B-Vitamins necessary for good metabolism and healthy dermis (skin, hoof and hair).
DL-Methionine is a sulfur-containing Amino Acid deficient in all commonly fed grains (corn, oats, barley, etc.). It is important for the proper utilization of lipids and building the sulfur crosslinks that add strength to connective tissue proteins.
Biotin is a highly active member of the B-Complex Vitamins. Biotin serves essential roles in Fatty Acid metabolism.
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) supplementation is traditionally believed to be unnecessary in horses. However, research conducted by Life Data Labs established that stabled or stressed horses often have minimal blood levels of Ascorbic Acid and therefore benefit from supplementation. Vitamin C is required for healthy and strong connective tissue.
Silicon is an element utilized in the formation of connective tissue and bone. Research has shown that silicon supplementation strengthens bone, connective tissue, and has other beneficial effects when interacting with other nutrients.
Zinc is required for the healthy maturing of keratin - a major component of the outer layers of dermal tissue. Proper keratin formation is important for wound healing, skin health, and hoof structue.
Copper is an important component of a multitude of metabolic functions. A Copper deficiency leads to a number of abnormal conditions including defects in the pigmentation and strength of hair and hoof.
Cobalt is essential for the production of Vitamin B-12 by microorganisms in the gastrointestinal tract of the horse, and is important in the formation of red blood cells and healthy skin.
Calcium Iodate provides an easily utilized form of iodine. Iodine is a component of thyroid hormones which regulate basal metabolism. A deficiency of thyroid hormones is known as hypothyroidism and leads to a multitude of disease conditions including poor hair coat and hoof quality.

Pelleting and nitrogen packaging reduces oxidative damage to nutrients
Oxidation of nutrients is a primary cause of nutrient degradation resulting in loss of shelf life. The pelleting procedure reduces the surface area of nutrients exposed to the oxygen present in surrounding air, and packaging with nitrogen further reduces nutrient exposure to oxygen. The result allows Life Data Labs the unique ability to provide fresh product with an extended life of nutrient stability.

Starch and Carbohydrates in Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate
*Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate does not contain added sugars or molasses. The daily intake of starches, carbohydrates (WSC and NFC), and sugars from Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate is very low, and is insignificant relative to the starch, sugar and carbohydrate intake in the total diet.

Potassium in Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate.
**Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate does not contain added potassium; however potassium is contained in minor concentrations with some of the ingredients such as alfalfa. Considering the small amount of product, the total level of potassium intake from Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate relative to the intake in the total diet is not significant.

Farrier's Formula® Double Concentrate is doping free and can be safely fed to competition horses.

Guidelines for Feeding the Hoof

The differences between original Farrier’s Formula® and Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate.

Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate provides the horse with nutrients important for healthy hooves and hair coat at one-half the feeding level of original Farrier’s Formula®. Due to reducing alfalfa and utilising concentrated natural flavours and ingredients the daily feeding level for a 450 kg horse is only 85 grams per day as compared to 170 grams of the original Farrier’s Formula®. Both are equally effective, although Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate is more beneficial to the horse owner due to the reduced daily feeding expenses.

Replenishment Feeding Level vs. Maintenance Feeding Level.

The length of time Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate should be given at the replenishment level is determined by the initial problem to be solved. With hoof problems, it is advisable to continue the Replenishment Feeding Level until the foot is completely remodeled (9 to 12 months), even though one will begin to observe denser hoof growth below the coronary band within two months. If the goal is to improve the health and appearance of the skin or grow a long and flowing mane and tail the Replenishment Feeding Level should be continued until the desired results are obtained. The feeding level can then be reduced to the Maintenance Feeding Level.

Feed intake can sometimes be reduced when feeding Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate.

According to field reports feeding Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate allows the horse to utilise its feed intake more efficiently. Horses supplemented with Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate should be monitored for weight gain and, if necessary, the feeding amounts of grain, not Farrier’s Formula®, should be adjusted appropriately. Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate does not contain any added sugars or molasses, and the starch and carbohydrate content are very low.

Combine Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate with Farrier's Finish® for Total Hoof Care.

Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate provides the nutrients for healthy hoof growth from the inside. Farrier's Finish® destroys "hoof eating" microbes while maintaining correct hoof capsule moisture balance.

Bran should not be fed to horses with poor hoof quality.

Bran and other hull material of grain contain phytates. Phytates are high in phosphorus and can block the absorption of calcium and other minerals in the small intestine. Diets high in bran and other grain by-products can create the low calcium levels that are detrimental to hoof condition. Published scientific research (Kempson BSc, PhD 1987) demonstrated the ultra structural changes to the hoof wall caused by calcium deficiency related to the feeding of bran to the adult horse.

There is little margin for error when supplementing selenium.

A horse’s daily requirement for selenium is only a few milligrams less than the level of selenium that creates chronic selenium toxicity. A lack of copper in the diet increases the risk of selenium toxicity. There is no evidence or research that a selenium deficiency affects hoof structure. However, selenium excess and chronic selenium toxicities are well documented in the development of lameness, hoof defects, and poor hoof wall structure.

Too much sulphur in the diet can be detrimental to hoof quality.

Sulphur is an important nutrient for connective tissue strength and joint health. Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate contains the ingredient methionine (a sulphur containing amino acid) which supplies the correct amount of sulphur for joint and hoof health. Joint supplements often contain MSM, an ingredient that contains sulphur, and can lead to over supplementation of sulphur when combined with other products. Utilise joint supplements that do not contain MSM when feeding other sulphur containing products such as Farrier’s Formula® Double Concentrate.

Has definitely worked its magic on my boy. After using a product from my vet & it not making much difference, I bought Farriers Formula Double Concentrate because Farriers Formula worked a treat on my boy’s mother years ago.
He’s been having the supplement for about 6 months. The farrier says his horn quality has improved dramatically, and only another couple of shoeings will see the poor quality gone. So happy new hooves in about 9 months.
